Just a reminder of what’s important.
After I won my appeal and was released from prison in 2010. I had no clue as to where my mother was.
Nearly a year later, in May/June 2011, my sister decided it was time and started the process of filing a missing persons report. Peace officers went to her house and advised her that considering the circumstances mommy wasn't considered missing and suggested a search be done on 411.ca, My sister put in the name our mom went by and didn't find anything. Presumably knowing what was there, peace officers suggested she may be known by another name. My sister figured it out and found the address to an apartment building and a phone number but no apartment number. We called the number but no answer.
That night myself, my brother, and my empress went to the address, coming up empty handed. We decided to try again in the morning when we could talk to building management. When we got there the next day, we explained who we were looking for and that we had lost contact for 8 years. Building management said that information was confidential, but their hearts could not be contained and they silently slipped us an apartment number.
Not knowing how mommy would receive us we asked empress to knock on the door. No answer. We knocked on neighbours doors with a picture of mommy, but no body seemed to know anything. Just to be certain that it was her place, I called the number we had for her. Once I heard the phone ringing inside her apartment,I knew we were close to finding her. We left and went downstairs. I figured if anybody knew mommy it was the maintenance people who work in the building daily.
As we were leaving we ran into a wonderful older melanated woman named Qutie. We showed her the picture and explained our story. She started telling us things about the woman who lived there and I knew right then it was my mom she was talking about.
We continued talking and were about to leave, I looked up, and I saw my mom was walking into the building. I turned to them and said ' there she is right there' turned to her and said ' mommy, mommy'. She took one look at me and started proclaiming 'Lanre! Lanre! Lanre!!
